Champions of the Blood Drive

The Linkside Active Committee brings incredible energy and heart to every SANBS blood drive on our campus. Each term, this passionate team steps up to organise, motivate, and support one of the most meaningful events in our school calendar. Their enthusiasm is contagious — so much so that Linkside consistently smashes the donation targets set by SANBS. In fact, our drives have become so popular that we often run them over two full days just to give every eager learner the chance to donate.
But this club is about more than logistics. It’s about leadership, compassion, and community. Our learners understand that donating blood is a powerful act of service — one unit can save up to three lives. By showing up in such large numbers, they are actively strengthening the Gqeberha community and proving that young people can make a real, measurable difference.
The Active Committee keeps the atmosphere upbeat, organised, and supportive, ensuring every donor feels confident and cared for. Their commitment reflects the very best of Linkside: teamwork, responsibility, and a genuine desire to help others. We are incredibly proud of the role they play in making our school one of the top-performing blood‑donation schools in the region.

Celebrating Our Stories

The Linkside Culture Club is a dynamic group of learners who come together to celebrate the rich diversity of South Africa. Through storytelling, folklore, traditions, customs, indigenous healing practices, food, and music, members share the unique cultural threads that make our country so extraordinary. The club is a space where learners learn from one another, honour their roots, and build pride in the cultures that shape their identities.
This year, the Culture Club will make its exciting debut during our annual Culture Week, bringing the festival to life with vibrant performances, demonstrations, and interactive showcases. Their goal is not only to entertain, but also to educate — helping the school community understand, appreciate, and celebrate the beauty of our shared heritage. With passion, creativity, and unity, the Culture Club is ready to shine and remind us all of the power of culture in bringing people together.

Environmental Club

Coordinator: Ms Ferreira

Linkside Environmental Club is a holistic initiative dedicated to improving the environment and caring for all who share it. The club encourages learners to become environmentally aware, responsible, and compassionate citizens. Members actively participate in planting spekboom, recycling plastic, white paper, and—until recently—glass items, as well as conducting regular school clean-ups to maintain a cleaner, healthier school ground.

A highlight of the club’s work is its annual raffle, which raises funds to support Save-a-Pet, specifically their cat Queen Bee and dog Baloo, whom the club has proudly supported for the past five years. Through practical action and community involvement, the Linkside Environmental Club nurtures a deep respect for the environment and fosters empathy for both people and animals. 🌍💚

Linkside Aftercare Volunteer Club

Coordinator: Ms Kwongsee

Linkside High is proud to partner with the aftercare that supports Grey Junior learners, creating a meaningful opportunity for our Grade 11 and 12 Tourism students who are interested in au pairing or gaining real work experience. Through this partnership, our learners volunteer their time to assist the facilitators with homework supervision, lunchtime routines, sports activities, and any other support the children may need. This hands‑on involvement allows our students to build confidence, develop responsibility, and accumulate the childcare hours required when applying to become an au pair after matric. The feedback from our volunteers has been overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the experience as rewarding, eye‑opening, and deeply fulfilling. We look forward to strengthening this relationship and continuing to give our learners a space to grow while making a real difference.

Linkside High & YFU Student Exchange Programme

Coordinator: Ms Kwongsee

Linkside High is proud to be affiliated with Youth For Understanding (YFU), a global student exchange organisation that connects young people across cultures. Through this partnership, our school has had the privilege of welcoming international learners into our community. In 2024, we hosted two wonderful students from Germany, and in 2025, we enjoyed the company of an amazing student from Belgium. Their presence enriched our classrooms, broadened perspectives, and created meaningful friendships that stretched far beyond borders.
This exchange doesn’t only bring the world to Linkside — it also opens doors for our own learners. Through YFU, one of our students has been given the incredible opportunity to travel overseas and experience life in another country.
If your family is interested in hosting an exchange student in the future, or if you’d like to learn more about how the programme works, please speak to Mrs Kwongsee.
Together, we continue to grow global citizens and celebrate the beauty of cultural exchange.

Linkside Peer Mentors

Coordinator: Ms Van Der Merwe

At our school, we believe that every learner deserves to feel supported, connected, and encouraged. The Peer Mentor Programme is one of the ways we build a caring school community where learners look out for one another and help promote positive mental health.

What Are Peer Mentors?

Peer Mentors are trained Grade 9–11 learners who are selected to serve as approachable, trustworthy student leaders, and can be seen as Mental wellbeing Ambassadors. They are equipped with the skills to support fellow learners who may be experiencing stress, friendship difficulties, academic pressure, or personal challenges.

Peer Mentors are not counsellors, but they act as a bridge between learners and the support systems available at school, including the school counsellor and grade heads.
